Head of School Chris Lindeman to Step Down in June 2018
In August, Chris Lindeman announced her intention to resign as Head of The Common School on June 30, 2018 after seven years in the job. Chris has guided our School through many transitions, placing it on a strong path forward. The Board of Trustees is extremely grateful to Chris for her tireless work, vision for The Common School, and unwavering support for students, families, faculty, and staff. No. The School’s mission has been thoughtfully developed and evolved over time. An important factor in evaluating the next Head of School will be the degree to which the candidates understand, support, and can enhance our mission.
The Search Committee has engaged the firm Resource Group 175 (RG175) to partner with it on our Head of School search. Robert P. Henderson, Jr. and Jerrold I. The Board is responsible for selecting the next Head of School. The Board will formally vote to extend an offer to the next Head. This is one of the most important roles that the Board plays for the School. The detailed task of conducting the search will be undertaken by a Board designated Search Committee.
The Search Committee is charged with engaging and learning from all constituents to define the qualities required of the next Head of School. The Search Committee reviews candidate files, interviews the most viable candidates, and identifies 3-4 finalists who will visit our campus. After considering input from all constituents who meet with finalists, the Search Committee recommends one candidate for appointment by the Board of Trustees. Until the finalist phase, the work of the Search Committee must remain strictly confidential.
Search Committee members include members of the Board of Trustees, along with members of the administration, faculty, and parent community. They offer a diverse set of experiences and points of view as well as a strong degree of commitment to and involvement in the School. They were chosen by the Executive Committee of the Board in consultation with members of the school community.
Our consultants and members of the Search Committee will be soliciting and screening candidates throughout the fall and into the beginning of the new year. Our new Head of School will assume responsibility on July 1, 2018.
No. Chris Lindeman and the Board of Trustees are committed to ensuring that each child has a fulfilling academic and student experience during the 2017-2018 school year. The Head of School search will have little or no visibility with students.
No. While faculty and administration input will be sought throughout the search process, it will not intrude on classroom time.
You can expect periodic communication from the Search Committee throughout the process. It is important to note that most of the search process must be confidential, and that will shape the communication. Broad community input will be critical to effectively define the leadership, professional and personal qualities required in the new head. Please recommend and encourage any highly qualified candidates to apply to the search, once we are at that point in the process.
