In 1967, Emily Johnson had a progressive idea…

She had the vision, the passion and the initiative to make it a reality. Fifty years later, The Common School has plenty to celebrate. As our 50th anniversary unfolds we have an exciting year of events in store, all culminating in a Really Big Bash & Big Sing on the School grounds.

At The Common School

For this special 50th Anniversary May Day, we will uncover and open the School’s 20th Anniversary time capsule, buried by the classes of ’87 and ’88. Students in the current E2 class will continue the tradition, and help bury a 50th Anniversary time capsule they have created.

50 Acts of Kindness

We challenge you!
To commemorate our 50th Anniversary we challenge our school community to engage in acts of kindness and community service, now through June 15, 2018. Of course we know you’re being kind every day… but perhaps you’ll think about taking an extra initiative, this year. Our goal is to reach 50 acts – large or small, one-time or ongoing, in groups or as an individual – that are focused on making a difference in the lives of others.

We look forward to compiling your good deeds and acts of kindness, so please send a note to and include your name/family members names, location and date of the service, task or volunteer work. You can also send a photo of “kindness in action” and we’ll share it.
